Hi! This is Mickey! Two weeks ago, the Oakdale Mustangs took on the Folsom Bulldogs, and the final was Oakdale-29, Folsom-45. That made them 2-1 heading into the bye week. This week, they will open up Valley Oak League play with the 3-0 Lancers of East Union High School. Here is a look at how the other teams around the league did in the past few weeks heading up to the league opener….
EAST UNION: 3-0 (Ceres, Johansen, West)
Point differential: +96
CENTRAL CATHOLIC: 2-0 (Archbishop Riordan, Saint Mary’s)
Point differential: +74
OAKDALE: 2-1 (Wins: Sonora, El Capitan), (Loss: Folsom)
Point differential +55
MANTECA: 3-0 (Valley Christian, Christian Brothers, Enochs)
Point differential: +44
SIERRA: 1-2 (Wins: Central Valley), (Losses: Ripon, Pacheco)
Point differential: -21
LATHROP: 1-2 (Win: West), (Losses: Hilmar, Franklin/Elk Grove)
Point differential: -61
WESTON RANCH: 1-2 (Wins: Bear Creek), (Losses: Ceres, Edison)
Point differential: -68
KIMBALL: 0-3 (Livermore, West, Tracy)
Point differential: -72
Like I said, the Lancers are 3-0. They are, like last year, coached by Willie Herrera. They run the Shotgun Wing, which is like Oakdale’s offense, but out of the Gun. They don’t have their QB from last year, Jack Weaver, but this year’s QB is also athletic. They have had 2 home games, and one on the road. East Union has held their opponents to approximately 13.3 points per game, and are averaging scoring about 45.3 PPG. So far, the Mustangs average a score of about 42—23.6. Last year, the Lancers finished at 6-5 with a loss in the first round of the playoffs. We beat them 42-6. That was last year, though. This is a whole new year, and the Stangs, Buffaloes, and Raiders look to defend their titles. Everybody is in first place. Will their be a new champ to rise, or will a reigning champ keep their throne? There's only one way to find out, and it starts tonight...
